Hello! I am Martine.

I was born in the Netherlands and 21 years ago moved to Kirkcaldy (Fife) in Scotland, as a child I also spent quite a bit of time in Canada, therefore my accent is a bit all over the place!

As long as I can remember I have been drawing pictures.

I studied at the Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden (the Netherlands), where I got my Bachelor of Arts in Art & Design. Soon after I got my degree I moved to Scotland (in fact only 4 days later).

I started working as a graphic designer, but because I still wanted to have a creative outlet and not just sit behind a computer screen I joined Kirkcaldy Art Club. After doing various painting classes I thought I would try pottery, just to see if I would like it. I am now part time pottery manager at Kirkcaldy Art Club. You could say that ceramics has taken over my life in many ways!

I also still enjoy drawing and painting and in 2018 I got to illustrate a lovely book called 'Show me' by Tracey Thomson, there is lots of info on Tracey's websiteHer stories are designed to help young children deal with life's daily challenges.

I enjoy making people smile with the creatures and animals that I make in clay and on paper

Currently I enjoy setting up my Raku kiln in the garden and play with fire and smoke. You can read more how I Raku fire here.

You will find my work in my online shop. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch.
